Northern California McGill Alumni Gather to Greet McGill Vice-Principal
Derek Drummond
March 22, 2002 (San Francisco,
CA) - On a recent Wednesday evening, a large group of
over 80 Northern California McGill Alumni was graciously hosted
by Mike Powell PhD, Managing Director of Sofinnova Ventures
and fellow Canadian -- along his lovely wife and his 85 million
year old pet dinosaur -- for what was described as an
excellent event, as good as any we have had over the past
20 years.
Derek Drummond, Vice Principal
for Development for McGill, engaged the audience with an update
on all the exciting new developments at the university, as
well as a fascinating discussion on city planning in light
of current concerns about public and private safety.
Alumni mingled over a generous
spread of hors doeuvres and enjoyed California wines
and good old Molsons beer served gratis in honour of
McGills benefactors, the Molson family. Reviews included:
I thought the reception
was a lot of fun and very well organized. Pleasure to meet
up with old McGillians and be updated on the school. Thrilled
to hear we're doing so well. Richard Kelly, BA 85
The meeting was certainly
worth while, and both Kathy and I enjoyed it and meeting you
and the other McGill people. The talk was very interesting
too. Anders Jepsen, BSc 59 MSc 62
It was great to see
some familiar faces and meet new people as well. I really
enjoyed talking to fellow McGill Alumni and reminiscing about
the good old days. The reception and food was
great as well. Wynnie Chan, BCom98
Derek returned with
glowing reviews of the event, the organizers, the host and
the venue - Bravo to you. Trish Duff, Alumni Relations
Officer, Martlett House, McGill University.
We are planning other events
for the rest of the year and beyond and would love to hear
from you about which events you would be interested in attending
and even possibly helping out, or volunteering your place
of work, or a club in which you are a member as a possible
venue for future events.
